IPL.... The latest developments might have shocked many IPL lovers but honestly speaking it has given me an ultimate reason to relinquish and rejoice the series of events... I might sound a bit sadistic the way I speak but that's a fact. IPL which I prefer to call like many others as Indian Paisa League has met its match after all. Hats off to IT Dept. as well as Mr. Shashi Tharoor for this surge that was overdue for a long time. I don't really know how keen Mr. Tharoor would have been to spill the beans if his name didn't get involved into the controversy but still he would get the share of my gratitude. I would have been really happy to the authorities if this "Great Indian tamaasha" could have been terminated once and for all.
3 years back when Mr. ShahRukh Khan bought the KKR team and everyone around me was really excited to view and feel this all new and sensational event in India, I also became a victim of that sensation. I love any form of sports, though Soccer being my favorite cricket was always a second choice for me. But in a country where Cricket is a religion and where the GOD of the Game resides it doesn't really take much to fall in love with this game too. That' s what happened to me like many millions in my country. Being a sportsman what I do believe in is that in any form of game the real USP should be the spirit of the Game and not something which hasn't got anything to do with that. Dedication, devotion, commitment and Love for the Game is what makes a real sportsman and that is what makes the Game stand apart from others. This bloody (mind my language) IPL tried to redefine the Game of Cricket with shots of Entertainment. People in our country started to fall prey to this easily. For most of them initially it meant supporting their home teams but later on there were more reasons to go to the ground than just to cheer your team. There were CheersLeaders to stimulate their testosterone....The atmosphere around the ground was like a discotheque.....people started to smuggle in alcohol to make it worth the money they spent. They danced around the cheerleaders who preferred to wear the bare minimum textile to cover those essential parts of their bodies (as part of environment awareness---an IPL official might say). Soon this became the only reason to be in the ground. If you have proper contacts and money to spend then you can take one of those girls at your place for an extended round of entertainment....People were ready to spend any amount of money to grab a seat near the Bollywood celebrity and then to show it off to his/her relatives. Having a club house ticket became a show of status symbol. The spirit of the Game made a "POOOFFF!!" sound and vanished in the thin air.. IPL became a heavenly place for the betters and nobody could survive from the fangs of this ominous event. The only question I felt like asking was "What the Hell is happening here?"...
A monologue which many of you might have made like me. The devil loomed large over the game of Cricket. Players enjoyed as they were paid up to their brim. Their account was filled up with hard cash more than what they ever dreamed of. The Underachievers became millionaires and stars. Media took a pioneer seat in this as they also got their share from this. All the channels were competing with each other to be one up to beam this news and grab more TRP. In the end it was all Business and not the Game for all of them.
Only in a country like India which has been tagged as Developing Country (for the past 10 years by the Developed Countries) these "tamaasha" could have taken place. The corrupt politicians, the business tycoons who never had any ethics or morality, the opportunist people like Modi and co. all came together and looted us by selling a cheap form of Cricketainment and became wealthier. Now when everything is wide open in front of us we are crying foul but you know what the people to be blamed for all this is US. We have made this cheap event a huge success. We can blame Modi for not paying taxes and making illegal money in course because he is the mastermind behind this loot, but he is not the only one involved in this dirty Business. All other faces are hiding behind him and Modi is getting paid for that too. We need to dig deep to uproot those big abetters of this sinister design.
The national game of our country was Hockey (rather still is) but ask the youth of today....at least 60% will say its cricket. I have nothing against our youth but that's what we have become. We are driven by the hype created by media and not by our conscience.. As a developing country each year we have a rising GDP...which is actually a joke to the face of our country and a sophisticated topic for the elite society to discuss on their dinner table over a round of finest wine. The growth that gets reflected through this GDP doesn't take into account the inclusive factor. The growth should always be inclusive then only the deprived and poorest of poor people can have a better life. Today our country has 70% of its population earning Rs. 30 per day and our country is developing.....Such disparity is there that people who have been deprived for decades have faith only in arm struggle.!! Strange ...isn't it?
One thing IPL has shown clearly is that the rich people who pretend to be poor when approached by an NGO working for the people and turns a blind eye to the common people's distress has at least 50000/- bucks to spare in a day to share a seat with the celebrities in a IPL match...........High time that we Introspect .. Isn't it?
Great post. You've rightly slammed the IPL for the incredible dirt, depradation and depravity that it has brought it since its inception.
